Mike Lynch, 2018 Pacific Masters Coach of the Year

Mike Lynch
Mike Lynch, the long time coach of Peninsula Community Center (PCC) Masters, was awarded the 2018 Pacific Masters Coach of the Year Award during the Short Course Yards Championships meet in Moraga.  This award recognizes a coach’s ability to inspire swimming skill and ability, build a vigorous and healthy team, and promote the values held dearly by Pacific Masters Swimming and United States Masters Swimming.
Mike has been coaching for over 30 years at PCC, and PCC Masters has been active for over 40 years.  His pool is six lanes, 25 meters, and he has over 100 swimmers annually on the roster.  A coach has many attributes, but among them are instruction, time, dedication, commitment, encouragement, motivation, challenge, humor, and care.  Mike possesses each of these, and all are reflected on the pool deck during his 16 weekly workouts.  He is a Level 3 USMS Certified Coach, is passionate about coaching, and desires each of his swimmers to embrace this activity in the same way.  He inspires them to “Stay Fit, Have Fun, Get Wet”, his motto, and communicates this frequently.
Mike also serves his community, as a Commissioner on the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Commission of the City of Redwood City.  He actively serves and volunteers his time to local schools, mostly in lower income communities.
Mike, a former USMS Kerry O’Brien Coaching Award recipient, says that his sweet spot is serving to help people and the community improve.  His swimmers feel that sweetness every week and surely would agree with him when he says, “My happiest moment is seeing people getting joy out of the swimming environment – meets, open water, coming to the pool.  I love it when people come regularly and they see themselves becoming more fit, happier and having personal transformation”.
Mike, congratulations to you on winning the Pacific Masters Coach of the Year Award and thank you for all that you do to keep the Pacific Masters Community happy, healthy, and swimming.
