• Only the best 5 finishes for each swimmer in a single category will be considered. To be considered for an award a swimmer must swim at least 3 swims in a division. See Key to reading the results below for more details.
• A swimmer's age group is based on their age on December 31 of the year of the open water season.
• If two or more swimmers tie for an award then each will receive the award.
• A swimmer's age group is based on their age on December 31st of the year of the open water season
• These results are based on a total of 18 different races (9 Category 1 swims and 9 Category 2 swims, listed above.) Note that only races longer than 500 meters are considered in the points competition.
• There were a total of 0 swimmers who competed in the above races. Of those swimmers, 0 were registered with Pacific Masters, and 0 of those swimmers earned points.

Key:

1. Teams: Each swimmer is associated with exactly one team in the above results. The team abbreviation is given in the following forms:
   • Un-quoted string, e.g. WCM. This is a valid team.
   • UC38, which is valid and represents "unattached in Pacific Masters", allowing a swimmer to swim on behalf of no team.
   • A quoted string, e.g. "ZAPM", which is a team not recognized as a valid team yet still score points.
   • The special string "(none)", which means that no team was entered by the swimmer when entering their open water races AND we couldn't determine a team from the PacMasters database.
   For every PacMasters swimmer their team association is based on their USMS registration, NOT the team they wrote down when entering any open water event. Note that this affects the overall team standings. If a team cannot be determined from the PacMasters database (as with non-PacMasters swimmers) the team used will be determined from the swimmer's open water entries.
 
2. Points: A swimmer is awarded points for every swim greater than 500 meters in which they place in the top 10 for their age group and gender. (This year only the best 5 finishes of the year are considered.) The points are awarded based on place:

3. Awards: Swimmers will receive special awards based on their place in their gender, age group, and category of their suit (1 or 2.) Typically 1st through 3rd places receive awards, but this can change. However, to be eligible for an award a swimmer must swim the minimum number of events (3) in their category. Swimmers who have yet to swim the minimum number of events will show their place in light red.
 
4. Swimmer details: Each swimmer name in the above results is a link, and when clicked, details of that swimmer's swims for the year are displayed. These details include:
   • Teams: The team the swimmer is registered with for USMS, and also the team(s) the swimmer has registered under for this year's open water races. See the above description of Teams to see how this is handled and how it affects the team competition.
   • Age Group: The swimmer's age group. A swimmer will be assigned to exactly one age group which is based on their age on December 31st of the year of the open water season.
   • Races: The list of open water races this swimmer competed in this year. Along with each race name the following information is presented:
     • The Race #: the number of the race for this swimmer, e.g. Race #1 is the first race swum by this swimmer this year, Race #3 is the third race swum by this swimmer this year.
     • The "Event ID" of this race. Often an open water event is considered two different events, one for Category 1 swimmers, and another for Category 2 swimmers. For example, the Berryessa 1 Mile race is open to both Category 1 and Category 2 swimmers, so we consider that event as two different events. This is to allow points accumulation to be separately computed for Category 1 and Category 2 swims. A complete list of open water events that we are considering for this year (so far) are listed above (see the Category 1 Events and the Category 2 Events.) As a real example, the details of a race might say:
       • Race #1,  Event ID 3: 2010 Parkside Aquatic 1 Mile
       which means that this swimmer's first race of 2010 was event ID #3 hosted in 2010, and that event was the Parkside 1 Mile.
     • Their place in that race. It's possible that a swimmer is awarded a place by the race officials, but later their place is "upgraded" to a better place. This happens when non-PacMasters swimmers are removed from the results, causing other swimmers to "slide up" in the results.
     • The distance and their time for the race
   • Metrics: The total distance this swimmer swam in all open water races, the total time they swam, and their average 1 mile time.
    
5. Beginning in 2011 there are 2 open water points divisions for Pacific Masters events; one for swimmers wearing Category 1 suits; the other for swimmers wearing Category 2 suits. The division in which a swimmer has highest points will be used to determine their place in the open water points competition. A swimmer can only be declared overall winner in one division.
