WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - NEW ZEALAND
Many Pacific Masters Swimmers are in New Zealand at the FINA Masters 
World Championships. The first day of racing has been completed.

GOLD IN THE WATER WINS AWARD
FROM SWIMINFO: P.H. Mullen's new swimming book, Gold in the Water: 
Ordinary Men and their Extraordinary Dream of Olympic Glory, has been 
nominated as the year's "Best Book for Young Adults" by the Booklist 
Magazine. PH Mullen swims for Santa Clara

COACH MIDNIGHT
Coach Midnight was watching the Oscars so he was not able to write a 
column for the Update. He noted that Natalie Coughlin of Cal was 
destroying the NCAA womans records and USA Swimming yard records at 
the NCAA Nationals.  She swam a
	100 backstroke  	49.97 (no other woman had gone under 52.40)
	50 Backstroke	23.41 (set in the leadoff for the 200 relay - 
Beth Botsford set the previous standard at 25.19)
	100 Fly		50.01 (Jenny Thompson had the previous record 51.07)

The Pacific Masters Swimming February monthly meet will be MARCH 27 
at the Oak Hill Park Community Center in Danville. All members are

PACIFIC MASTERS SHORT COURSE YARDS CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2002 Pacific Masters Short Course Yards Championships will be 
held in Santa Cruz, April 12-14, 2002. You must pre-enter the meet. 
The meet post mark deadline is March 30, 2002, to be received no 
later than April 3rd.

The 2002 United States Masters Swimming Short Course Yards Nationals 
are being held at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI in May. 
Entries must be submitted by April 2nd.
