THE BERRYESSA SWIM THIS YEAR IN ON A TRIAL BASIS
The Bureau of Reclamation has insisted that Davis Aquatic Masters cut
down the vehicular impact. They are asking all participants to
carpool as much as possible. When you think of going to the Open
Water Swim at Berryessa, make plans to bring your swim teams mates.
Also cars have to be properly parked. There were many cars that were
towed because they were not parked properly. To keep the Lake
Berryessa swim we all have to pitch in to make it work.
PACIFIC MASTERS SHORT COURSE YARDS CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2002 Pacific Masters Short Course Yards Championships will be
held in Santa Cruz, April 12-14, 2002. You must pre-enter the meet.
The meet post mark deadline is March 30, 2002, to be received no
later than April 3rd. As many swimmers are competing in New Zealand
at the FINA World Championships, some swimmers might be able to
"sneak" a medal.
http://www.pacificmasters.org/comp/02cruzscy.html
Joel Wilson wants swimmers to note:
1. that women's events are odd numbered and men's events are even
numbered (I think the on line meet sheet does say this).
2. that all relays are deck seeded. Relays are entered the day of
the meet at Pacific Masters Championships.
USMS SCY NATIONALS
The 2002 United States Masters Swimming Short Course Yards Nationals
are being held at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI in May.

FROM THE DESK OF COACH MIDNIGHT
No, not everyone can make the Olympics -- but that should not stop
you from trying to be your best!!
My last missive seemed to strike a chord with at least one swimmer.
For bringing grief and anguish to that swimmer I apologize. It is not
my intent to intentionally do so.
One should be open to and explore all reasons for going fast and
well as why some go "Not so fast." I only want to present that which
I have either observed over the years, or what sports science
research indicates is going on regarding training methodology.
Will my writings always be 100% correct? -- No, but they will be
'in the ballpark'. Will it cause me to 'sugar coat' my writing? --
No, that's not my style, as I believe in telling the truth as I know
it . And to do otherwise would be a greater disservice.
So what's the bottom line on swimming -- First and most important is
trying to be the very best with what you were given. Only Mark Spitz
has the perfect butterfly kick, the rest of us will work to get it
right.
Second is to just plain enjoy the pleasure of moving through the
water (and with the least amount of 'resistance', of course). We know
when we hit that spot, when we move quickly and almost effortlessly
through the water. For some of us it is for one lap in a long work
out, other swimmers have found that sweet spot and can swim long
races in the zone. Many swimmers go to open water events where their
prime motivation is not competing, but to just enjoy the swim.
And lastly, be sure you are training in the most scientifically sound
and 'up to date' manner possible. This one, perhaps, will have the
most profound impact your swimming improving.
Coach Midnight
