PACIFIC MASTERS MONTHLY MEETING
The Pacific Masters Swimming May  monthly meet will be Wednesday, May 
22 at the Oak Hill Park Community Center in Danville. All members are 
welcome to attend.

LAKE BERRYESSA OPEN WATER
Davis Aquatic Masters is sponsoring the Lake Berryessa Annual One and 
Two Mile Swims on Saturday June 1st.   Carpooling is strongly 
suggested. Expected Water temperature is 65-70 degrees.

The race will have a new procedure where swimmers will wear an anklet 
sensor. When the swimmer crosses the finish line, the swimmers time 
will be recorded. After passing the finish line there will be a 
corral where swimmers will remove the anklet and give it back. The 
anklet will replace the paper tag that swimmers pinned to their suits.

Herb Marsden said that the Cal-Aggie band will be playing before the 
race. Race day registration is available.

WALNUT CREEK INVITATIONAL
The annual Walnut Creek Invitational June 7th and 8th. June 7th is 
the 800 M freestyle is Friday evening. The pre-entry deadline is June 
1 and race day entry is available for all the events EXCEPT the 800 M 
Freestyle.

SHADOWCLIFFS OPEN WATER
Registration for the TriValley Masters Shadowcliffs Open Water Swim,

BURLINGAME SPLASH AND DASH
The Burlingame Splash and Dash is a sprint LCM meet.  The 200 meter 
relays and the all  the 50 events are the only events on the 
schedule. The deadline is June 19th, with race day entry available.

TRANS TAHOE RELAY OPEN WATER SWIM
The Olympic Club sponsors the Trans Tahoe Relay every year. This is 
the Nevada to California relay swim. Get five of your swimming 
buddies together to make up a relay team. For more information

ALCATRAZ INVITATIONAL OPEN WATER
South End Rowing Club is sponsoring the Alcatraz invitational this 
year. (This is not a Pacific Masters sanctioned event). This is a 
very popular event - it always fills up. If you are interested in 
making the 1.25 mile swim on September 14th, 2002, check out the

MAUI CHANNEL SWIM
The Maui Channel Swim, "the only masters inter island relay race in 
the world" is scheduled for August 31, 2002. If you are interested in

INTERNATIONAL BERIMBAU SWIMMING MASTERS 2002 1st CUP will be held

COACH OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS DUE
Nominations for the 2002 Pacific Masters Coach of the Year are due 
May 22, 2002.  The Coach of the Year is selected on the basis of 
inspirational and instructional qualities; club and individual 
accomplishments including championships and world records; and 
non-competitive club and individual  accomplishments including club 
size and growth, club participations. volunteering, and events run by 
the club; and the coach's service to Pac Masters, USMS and other 
Masters organizations, participation in clinics, and published works.

The Award will be presented at the Pac Masters Long Course 
Championships.

MASTERS COACHES AT ASCA CLINIC (IF A COACH WANTS TO GO THERE HAS BEEN A CHANGE)
The American Swim Coaches Association is hosting its annual World 
Clinic in Las Vegas from September 2-8, 2002. Twelve of the top 
Masters coaches in the country are scheduled to give presentations on 
Masters coaching and team building on Saturday, September 7, and 
Sunday, September 8.

The clinic is an outstanding opportunity for current coaches to 
enhance their knowledge of Masters coaching, while potential Masters 
coaches can learn more about the trade.

To enhance participation, USMS will pay the registration fee ($165 
value) to the first 20 coaches who apply - no limit on the LMSC.

(For coaches if you go to expedia.com you can get a flight to Las 
Vegas for as low as $38 r/t and hotels are inexpensive if you book 
early).

USMS CONVENTION
Pacific Masters is able to select 20 delegates to attend the USMS 
Convention in Dallas, TX, September 12-14. If you would like to be a

For coaches this is an excellent way to meet coaches from other parts 
of the United States.

LONG DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
At the National Convention, the Long Distance Committee will be 
choosing the sites for the 2004 long distance Championships. This 
year the west can bid on the 1-3 mile open water championship. If you 
club is eligible and would like to hold the 2004 1-3 mile national 
championship, please contact Jim Wheeler, Pacific's Long Distance 
chair and member of the USMS Long Distance Committee.

RULES YEAR
This year's USMS convention will focus on the Rules part of the Rule 
Book (articles 1 and 3). If you have any suggestions about changes 
for the Rule book, please contact Alan Levinson, the Legislation and

This year the Championship Committee will be considering the order of 
events for the National Championships. If you would like to see
