". . . I must also take a moment to recognize the Pacific LMSC for
surpassing 10,000 registered athletes this year. This benchmark is
clearly indicative of a tradition of excellence in leadership. . . . "
Jim Miller, MD, President, United States Masters Swimming in his
letter to the LMSC chairmen.

MISTAKE IN THE USMS RULE BOOK :
An error was made in the USMS Rule book in Section 101.3.5 - Finish
of the Butterfly: The article in its entirety should read:
Section 101.3.5 - Finish
"At the finish, the body shall be on the breast and the touch shall
be made with both hands simultaneously at, above, or below the water
surface."
There should be no second sentence.
OFFICIALS CLINIC
Cross out the second sentence if you have the 2003 Rule book. On
Saturday, February 1, 2003, an Officials Clinic will be held at the
Heather Farms Community Center in Walnut Creek. Registration starts
at 8:00 a.m. and the clinic will start at 8:30 a.m. The emphasis for
this clinic will be the certification/re-certification for the S&T,
starters, and referees. To expedite the meeting please download
copies of the tests from the Pacific Officials Page. For first time
officials, you can also download the rulebook from our Pacific
Swimming Officials page -- you will need it to take the open book
certification test.
INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION
Well it is January, it is now time to register - if you havent done
it already. Nancy is still overwhelmed with 2003 registrations. There
has been over 2500 already registered and about another 1000 still
needing to be registered. If you have registered and have not yet
received your 2003 card, she is working on the backlog.
It is important that your club reregister. A person cannot be
register to a club until that club has registered. This is the first
year that a permanent number is used, so it will not be the same type
number.

Please be sure to write in your current registration number.

much better and is walking around the house and is able to driving

Rick Windes has been accepted by UCSF for liver replacement.
Mel Goldstein, former USMS president, was not feeling well, went to
the hospital with a temp of 104, while there he suffered a cardiac
