FINA World Championships
Coming to Bay Area

FINA, the international governing body for aquatic sports awarded the
XI FINA Masters World Championships to the United States, where it
will take place at Stanford University's Avery Aquatic Center. The
championships will take place in August 2006.

After United States Masters identified Stanford University as a venue
that USMS would like to stage the championships, the Pacific Masters
executive board has worked very long and hard to produce the bid.
Pacific Masters Chairman, Michael Moore, traveled to Dubai, UAE, to
make the bid presentation before the FINA Bureau on March 12th.

"The awarding of the bid to the Bay area is a the result of a lot of
hard work by the Pacific Masters and local swimming community" said
Michael Moore. "Anne Warner Cribbs of the Bay Area Sports Organizing
Committee (BASOC) was instrumental in getting the information and
creating a coherent bid and plan for the bid. Her knowledge of Bay
area sports is tremendous.

"Nancy Ridout, Beth Folkreth, Barry Fastbender and Barbara Thomas
worked tirelessly to bring the championships to the Stanford. We look
forward with our friends of the other aquatic sports to produce the
World Championships that will set the standard for the rest of the
world. "
