PACIFIC SWIMMING TO HOLD CLUB LEADERSHIP AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT SCHOOL
Pacific Swimming is holding a club leadership and business management 
school at the Holiday Inn, Oakland Airport on Saturday, December 11th.

It will cover
    the ten basic responsibilities of a board
    three legal responsibilities of a nonprofit board
    How to more effectively recruit and retain volunteers
    Characteristics of an effective board- staff partnership
    How to govern more and manage less

This is a free event, but they are asking for preregistration so they 
know how many lunches to order. This sounds like a great opportunity 
for swimming clubs to become more efficient.

Clinic and Race
December 11

Cal Aquatics is sponsoring a clinic and race on Saturday December 
11th at the Spieker Aquatic Center, University of California, 
Berkeley. This clinic is open to both USA Swimming swimmers and US 
Masters Swimmers. The racing will be separate.
A combination of education in starts, turns, and techniques followed 
by racing opportunities with the newly acquired skills. Highlights 
include presentations by Coach Nort Thornton and Coach Mike Bottom 
accompanied by teaching and demonstrations by Olympians Nick Folker 
and Bart Kizierowski. This competition will give participants the 
chance to compete in the Long Course pool.

First Clinic:  9:00 AM to 10:00 AM
                         First Set of Events (100fly/100back/100breast 
):  10:05 AM to 11:30 AM
Second Clinic:  11:35 AM to 12:35 PM
                         Second Set of Events (100free/200im/400free): 
12.35 PM to 2:00 PM

The Cost is $50.00 Check-in: You must check in for the "Clinic and 
Race" between 8:00 AM and 8:50 AM on deck.

Your registration also pays for the magazine from USMS on swimming.

MAGAZINE FOR MEMBERS
There has been misleading and confusing information regarding the 
magazine.  As a benefit of membership, you will continue to receive a 
magazine, it just won't be SWIM Magazine. The leadership of USMS, 
after considered investigation, discussion, and evaluation, has 
decided to publish its own magazine which will be called USMS Swimmer 
and will be sent to each member on a bi-monthly basis, just as you 
receive currently. The PMS Newsletter will continue to be inserted 
into the magazine for your convenience.  USMS is confident that you 
will enjoy this new publication and use it to enhance your swimming 
knowledge and awareness.

COACHES CLINIC
The January Coaches clinic sponsored by NorCal will be in Napa 
January 6, 7, 8, and 9. There will be Pacific Masters will have a few 
scholarships for coaches who apply (Pacific will pick up part of the 
registration fee) More information will be in the next Update. For
