FINA SUPPORT FOR WORLD SWIM FOR MALARIA 3 DECEMBER 2005
One million people swimming on December 3, 2005 to fight malaria in
the world. This is the main idea of the "World Swim of Malaria"
project, which was presented in Montreal (CAN) with the occasion of
the 11th FINA World Championships.

Counting with the active support of FINA and Speedo, Official FINA
Partner, this initiative will raise funds to help in the eradication
of malaria worldwide, a disease that kills more that three million
children every year. Up to now, this organization has gathered
250,000 swimmers, but is now actively engaged in getting new one-day
competitors next December 3. "Fundamentally, we want people to swim.
If, with this effort, they can collect some funds to prevent more
children's deaths, it's fantastic. Have fun in the pool, collect
money, save lives: this is our slogan," explained Rob Mather, founder
of "World Swim for Malaria".

OFF THE WALL - Swimming Tahoe the long way

I am writing to you as a friend of Ken Harmon, a 45-year old
Danville, Ca. man who is planning to swim the 22-mile length of Lake
Tahoe from Camp Richardson to the Hyatt Beach in Incline Village, NV
without a wetsuit on Monday August 22, 2005 starting at 6am. He is
doing this as a fundraiser for a new Danville Aquatic Center. He is
hoping to raise $100,000 in pledges.

This feat has only been accomplished 4 times in history and the last
man to accomplish this was a 30-year old Fred Rogers, from Marin, in
1955, who swam from Kings Beach to Bijou in 19 hours and 6 minutes.
Erline Christopherson of Lodi, was the fastest woman to accomplish
this the feat in 1962 when she swam from Baldwin Beach to Dollar
Point in 13 hours 17 minutes.

Ken Harmon will attempt to accomplish this as the oldest and fastest
person to ever swim the length of Lake Tahoe. Ken has been
successful in many other marathon swims including the Trans Tahoe
Swim which he has done without a wetsuit, individually, in 1999,
2000, 2003, in 4 hours 57 minutes, 4 hours 32 minutes, and 4 hours 21
minutes respectively. His longest swim was in 1996 when he swam the
20-mile length of Lake Washington in 10 hours and 10 minutes for
charity.

Ken will be in the Truckee area on Aug. 6, 2005 as he is swimming the
length of Donner Lake at 8:30 am and finishing on the West shore
around 9:35 am in the Sierra Nevada Masters Swim. On Sunday
morning Aug. 7, 2005, Ken and training partner, Craig Klass, two time
water polo Olympian 88 and 92, will be doing two lengths of Donner
for training. Ken could be available for interviews during this
weekend.

His website at <http://www.swimfar.org/>www.swimfar.org. Ken can be
contacted by phone at 925-552-1177 or 925-683-4610. His e-mail is
<mailto:kharmon at rpm-mortgage.com>kharmon at rpm-mortgage.com. If you
have any questions I can be contacted in Incline Village, NV at
775-832-0544 or 775-232-1468 or by e-mail.
