MANATEE 2X1 OPEN WATER RELAY
The Manatee 2x1 Open Water Relay will be on Sunday, August 21st at
Quarry Lakes in Fremont. The pre-entry postmark deadline was
Saturday, August 6th, but there will be on site meet entry. This is
the 19th annual 2x1 meet.
The 2x1 is a great race to swim with your significant other, son,
daughter, father mother, aunt , uncle or friend. You swim the best
you can then have fun. Bring a friend to swim there.
(I swam the event with my daughter a few years ago, she was the first
swimmer. She was in the second pack of swimmers to finish their leg.
I then started my leg of the swim. I got to watch many swimmers pass
me by.) This is a fun swim.
PINECREST LAKE OPEN WATER SWIM
The Pinecrest Lake open water swim is on Saturday, August 27th.
Shiela Monaghan wrote that she swam in Pinecrest lake for 2 hours and
it was absolutely lovely. The temperature was perfect for long swims.
WHISKEYTOWN ONE AND TWO MILE SWIM
Sunday September 11th is the one and two mile Whiskeytown lake open
water swim. Whiskeytown lake is about 15 miles from Redding. The
pre-entry deadline is August 31.
CHANGE IN SCHEDULE
There was a problem with the Heather Farms pool schedule. The 2005
Pacific Masters Short Course Meters Championships have been moved to
November 4th, 5th and 6th. This meet is the first meet where the
distance events will be held on the last day.

FINA SUPPORT FOR WORLD SWIM FOR MALARIA 3 DECEMBER 2005
One million people swimming on December 3, 2005 to fight malaria in
the world. This is the main idea of the "World Swim of Malaria"
project, which was presented in Montreal (CAN) with the occasion of
the 11th FINA World Championships.
Counting with the active support of FINA and Speedo, Official FINA
Partner, this initiative will raise funds to help in the eradication
of malaria worldwide, a disease that kills more that three million
children every year. Up to now, this organization has gathered
250,000 swimmers, but is now actively engaged in getting new one-day
competitors next December 3. "Fundamentally, we want people to swim.
If, with this effort, they can collect some funds to prevent more
children's deaths, it's fantastic. Have fun in the pool, collect
money, save lives: this is our slogan," explained Rob Mather, founder
of "World Swim for Malaria".

SEEKING MALE AND FEMALE SWIMMERS
Age Early - Mid 20's
To portray rescue swimmers in the United States Coast Guard
Boy...do we have a challenge here. We have been hired to cast the
upcoming Kevin Costner/Ashton Kutcher film entitled 'The Guardian'.
It will shoot in New Orleans beginning November 14, 2005 and film
through February 2006.
This film documents the intensive training process of US Coast Guard
rescue swimmers and their personal and physical sacrifices required
of the job.
Therefore, we need to cast swimmers (actors) to portray students of
the 'A' school for the Coast Guard Rescue School. The actors cast
for these roles will begin training at the Coast Guard Rescue
Swimmers training center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina in
September or October. These actors (swimmers) will be part of an
ensemble cast that will work throughout the production.
We will cast the remaining roles in the film in New Orleans later
this year. But for now.......we need to look for competitive
swimmers of any ethnicity who would be comfortable in challenging
ocean conditions (including athletes who compete in Water Polo,
Diving, Crew, Triathlons, or are certified life guards). This is an
opportunity for you to contact local swim clubs, universities (for
students who have just graduated), military bases, reservists, etc.,
to land a role for run of show. Obviously, we are looking initially
for actors who are very good swimmers. But if you so desire to go
outside your agency, we recommend that. This is a unique casting
challenge. These guys and gals are the toughest in the military.
Out of 75 in each class less than half graduate. They must be able
to handle crisis situations in the water and tread water for a long
time.
