Currently 35 events are planned for the next year. Included in the
schedule are short course yards, long course meters, short course
meters and open water.

SOUTHERN PACIFIC MASTERS REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MEET
In the last Update, I forgot to mention the one of the newest members
of Pacific Masters, Paul Carter, broke the World Record in the 50
Fly, and 100 Fly. The Manatee Masters were just edged out of fifth
place and came in sixth.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS TRAINING CAMPS
A training camp program is offered to Masters Swimmers and coaches
who will be attending the XII FINA World Championships in Perth. Pool
time will be dedicated to conditioning and technique improvement.
This program is designed for dedicated Masters Swimmers who are
committed to advancing their performances and skills.

Swimmers will train in 50m pools and attend one to two workouts a day
training and getting to know fellow swimmers and coaches.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AIRFARE
If you plan to go to the XII FINA World Championships in Perth,
Australia, they competitor airfares with Star Alliance carriers have
been extended, but for groups it is essential to book before
Christmas. For more information go to their web site at
http://www.2008finamasters.org

If you are not on the World Championships email list and wish to be,
please go to http://www.2008finamasters.org and sign up. They send
out information about once every three weeks.

PACING DEVICES
USMS Swimmer Info Incorrect
In the USMS Swimmer there is a quote "Since a wristwatch can be used
as a pacing device it is illegal to wear one while racing"- That
information is INCORRECT!!!!

Bruce Stratton, Chair of the USA Swimming Rules and Regulations
Committee, issued the following interpretation regarding swimmers
wearing watches during competition, "Watches are not necessarily
pacing devices and each case must be decided on its own merits."

INFORMATION FOR THE OLDER ATHLETE
Sports Geezer is the website for the older athlete. There is plenty
of information about the mature athlete and information about
training for swimming as well as other sports. It says is it has
Health, fitness and lifestyle tips for men and women over 40 who
still like to play hard:

The most recent articles it has are: Finally: Yoga for the Upper
body; Three and half Reasons to play computer games; How long can you
stay firt with no exercise and Pedometer Wearers walk more, lose more
weight.
From Sports Geezer:

REGISTRATION
Pacific Masters members can now register for the 2008 year. The
registration for is on the first page of the November - December
newsletter. The cost for 2008 is $40.00 - a $5.00 increase that will
be going to the national USMS organization.

Almost all the clubs have re-registered. Nancy has sent out invoices
to most Pacific Masters members. You might have already sent sent in
your money and still received an invoice - they are two different
systems (we are working on a new registration system for 2008). For
those who have sent in their 2009 registration, 2009 cards will start
to be sent out the end of this week (after Thanksgiving).

The Pacific Masters Committee hopes that you will register early. By
registering early, you will continue to USMS Swimmer, your club will
continue to be covered by USMS secondary insurance (if all the
swimmers are USMS members), you receive borrowing privileges from
Pacific Masters Video library and there is a central Pacific Masters
office to answer your questions:
