PACIFIC MASTERS MISSION STATEMENT:

As adopted by the Pacific Masters Committee the Mission of Pacific Masters is:

Pacific Masters Swimming welcomes anyone who would like to gain and
maintain fitness through swimming and encourages programs to foster
this mission.


UPCOMING :
Lake Mendocino 2 Mile Pacific Masters Championships
Since it's a championship swim, awards are given to 5th place. A new
venue but it will be put on by the same people who host the Spring
Lake and Russian River swims. They tell us that the drive is only 20
minutes longer than the drive to Lake Sonoma.

Lake Mendocino is about 130 miles north of San Francisco.

PACIIFIC MASTERS LONG COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Pacific Masters Long Course Swimming Championships will be 11-13
July 2008. This is meet always features great competition. It will be
at US Santa Cruz Swimming Complex at the East Field House, Santa
Cruz. You must pre-enter this meet.

For those who swim the distance events, the events will be swum one
to a lane, men and women will be swimming together. (this will help
the meet go faster).

Mail entries must be postmarked no later than Saturday 28 June and
received no later than 2 July.

TRANS TAHOE SWIM
The 32nd Annual Trans Tahoe Relay crossing takes place July 19th,
2008, and is hosted by The Olympic Club. This event is the only swim
race that crosses two state lines and has become one of the most
popular relay open water swims in the nation.

US MASTERS SWIMMING LONG COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2008 USMS Long Course National Championships will be held at the
Mt Hood Community College, Gresham , OR 14-17 August 2008 (Gresham is
near Portland). There is a discount on the surcharge if you enter by
23 June:

LAKE NATOMA OPEN WATER CANCELLED
The Lake Natoma State Recreation Area revoked the event permit as a
result, the open water swim has been cancelled. Thanks to Casey
Newton and everyone who worked hard on the open water swim. Hopefully
we will be able to have a swim at this location next year.

PACIFIC MASTERS SWIMMERS IN THE TRIALS
Nancy Ridout has noted that following swimmers will be competing at
the Olympic Trials:

Congratulations to all who have made the qualifying time and the best
of luck for all the swimmers at the trials..

ASU
Arizona State Men's Swimming program was dropped by the ASU Athletic
Dept. Cam Reid working with a group of Alumni to create an
endowment for the program and get it reinstated by the Athletic
Director. There is an online donation site at:

HEAD COACH NEEDED
Davis Aquatic Masters (Pacific Masters largest team) is looking for a
new head coach. Davis Aquatic Masters (DAM) is seeking a Head Coach
to promote team growth and development while leading a competitive
and fitness-oriented Masters swimming program. This position is
full-time, year-round,
overseeing 9 workouts/day, Mon-Fri, and 2 workouts on Saturday
morning. The Head Coach is expected to coach 60-75% of the workouts,
attend various swimming competitions and supervise a staff of 2-3
assistant coaches.

Compensation: Approx. $50,000 to $60,000 per year based on a
negotiated contract and commensurate with experience. Fundraising
incentives may be used to supplement basic compensation package
Benefits: Medical, IRA matching, office space and equipment.

USMS at the OLYMPIC TRIALS
UMMS will be a proud sponsor at the USA Olympic Trials being held in
Omaha. Among the things that USMS will be doing will be:
USMS will be the Presenting Sponsor of Rowdy Gaines July 4th
fan autograph/signing presentation in the Aqua Zone
USA Swimming will promote Rowdy's presentation (along with
USMS) in its course of advertising, and USA Swimming has the USMS
logo to be included
All USMS swimmers attending the Trials on July 4th are
invited to attend Rowdy's presentation and encouraged to serve as
Masters Swimming ambassadors sharing their enthusiasm for Masters
Swimming to those in attendance
The USA Swimming Foundation is offering an organized "behind
the scenes" tour to Masters Swimmers in attendance (details to be
sent to those attending)
When available, Rowdy Gaines and Melvin Stewart will attend
the offsite Masters Swimming practices.

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS
Tracy Grilli reported that Barr Clayson passed away at his home
Sunday morning. He was a member of New England Masters.

ONLINE REGISTRATION
If you have not registered for Pacific Masters, you can register on
line. It is quick and easy and you can do it in the privacy of your
home. To compete you must be a current member of United States
Masters Swimming, if you go to a meet to register and compete, you
will just stand in line longer. By registering now you will get the
USMS Swimmer and all the benefits of being a member, besides
belonging to a group that has great people.

5K and 10K Long Distance Postal National Championships
The 5 K and 10 K Postal is swum between 15 May and 15 September.
This is a great way to swim a national championships at a local pool.
You must swim the event in a 50 meter pool. Further information is
