PACIFIC MASTERS MISSION STATEMENT:
As adopted by the Pacific Masters Committee the Mission of Pacific Masters is:

Pacific Masters Swimming welcomes anyone who would like to gain and
maintain fitness through swimming and encourages programs to foster

RINCONADA MASTERS SPRING SHORT COURSE MEET
The Rinconada Masters Spring Short Course meet will be held Saturday
March 14th at the Rinconada Pool in Palo Also. the first event is the
1000 free, which you must pre enter. The preentery deadline is 4
March 2009. The class of the events is the 1650 butterfly - entry
free for this one. - one heat only.

SCAM Spring Break Meet
The Strawberry Canyon Aquatic Masters Spring Break meet will be on 21
March 2009 at the Spieker Aquatic Complex, UC Berkeley. The first
event - the 500 free- is pre-seeded. you can enter on line at

PACIFIC MASTERS SHORT COURSE YARDS CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2009 Pacific Masters Short Course Yards Championships will be
held April 17-19 at the Dolores Bengston Aquatic Center in
Pleasanton. Swimmers can enter on line at:

US MASTERS SWIMMING 2009 SHORT COURSE MASTERS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2009 US Masters Swimming Short Course Masters National
Championships will be held at the Clovis North High School Pool,
Clovis, CA. The online entry system will automatically close at 11:59
p.m. pacific time on April 9, 2009.

APPLICATION TO OFFICIATE AT THE US MASTERS SWIMMING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
An application to officiate at the US Masters Championships is at

An application is needed if you wish to work an assigned position
(deck ref, starter, chief judge). Officials can apply for their N2,
N3 certification.

US MASTERS SWIMMING HAS A NEW E-NEWSLETTER - BEHIND THE BLOCKS
US Masters Swimming has a new e-newsletter which has already gone
out. If you did not receive it - you may not be alone more than one
member of the US Masters Swimming Board of Directors did not receive
it either. Ashley has done a great job in production of the colorful
newsletter.

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS
GEORGE VIGUIE
George Vigue of Rolling Hills Mud Sharks passed away 22 February
while swimming at a pool in Petaluma. Apparently, he swam to the edge
of the pool, took off his goggles, and put his arms up on the deck to
rest. A swimmer noticed that he hadn't moved for awhile, and when he
checked out George, there was no pulse. George competed in the 60-64
age group. George was known for his subtle sense of humor.

VICTORIA CHIDESTER
Victoria Chidester of Colorado Masters trained for last years USMS
Short Course Nationals. She was the "cover girl" for the July/August
2008 USMS Swimmer. She had stage four colon cancer, but had a
unbeat,positive outlook that BIll Volckening wrote about in a special
web article. Victoria died on 3 March after a three year battle with
cancer. The article is on the USMS Swimmer website:

INDIVIDUAL RENEWAL
You can now renew your membership for 2009. You can register on line,
it is very easy, just go to:

and start filling out the forms. If you are a member of the clubs
listed below you can register with your club.

If your club is not one of the clubs listed above, you will have to
register as "unattached." And then when your club registers you can
change membership.

For those who do no want to register on-line, Pacific Masters still
has a paper registration form to send to Nancy.
