PACIFIC MASTERS MISSION STATEMENT:
As adopted by the Pacific Masters Committee the Mission of Pacific Masters is:

Pacific Masters Swimming welcomes anyone who would like to gain and
maintain fitness through swimming and encourages programs to foster
this mission.

RESULTS PACIFIC MASTERS LONG COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The results of the Pacific Masters Long Course Championships are

Thank you to Jenny Kubicki and the Chabot College Aquatics team for
organizing the meet. They went to great lengths to make the swimmers,
coaches and officials feel welcome. The Large team award was won by
USF Masters, medium team by Walnut Creek and small team was Rolling
Hills Mudsharks who edged out the Manatee Aquatic Masters (The points
totals were recalculated last night, as originally the mens distance
events were not included).

PACIFIC MASTERS MONTHLY MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY
The Pacific Masters Swimming Committee will be meeting on Wednesday
15 July in the classroom of Clark Aquatic Center, Heather Farms,
Walnut Creek. The meeting starts at 7:30 pm. A light dinner starts at
7:00


OPEN WATER CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2009 PMS Open Water championship will take place at the Santa
Cruz Roughwater Pier Swim, August 1, 2009.

DONNER LAKE SWIM
Registration for the Donner Lake swim is open. This event is limited
to the first 350 swimmers. You can register on line at:

MAAC SUMMER SCM
Modesto Area Aquatic Club is organizing the 3rd Annual MAAC Summer
SCM. It will be at the Modesto Junior College Aquatic Complex on
Saturday 15 August 2009.

HOT AUGUST CHILL
The Donner Lake 1/2 mile, one mile and 500 yard Hot August Chill will
be on Sunday, August 16, 2009 at the west end of Donner lake. This is
the first year of the event organized by the Truckee Tahoe Swim Team.
Debbie Meyer will be the Master of Award Ceremonies.

OPEN WATER 101- Moved to Lake Del Valle
Want to learn about open water swimming, but not sure how to start?
Concerned about cold water, crowded starts, open water culture,
Pacific Masters is sponsoring Open Water 101 a clinic for new and
developing open water swimmers. It will cover Breathing and sighting,
coping with panic, pack swimming, water entry and exit and mental
Preparation. It is on the 26th of July, the clinic is from 8am to 11
am. There are only a few seat left. There is a limit of 50 swimmers
so register early.

There will be dry land talks by Suzanne Heim-Bowen, Suzie Dods Trevor
Gillis and Lisa Hazen as well as other local, national and
international open water swimmers. The location has been moved to
Lake Del Valle.

swimmers, but there will be a discount for Pacific Masters Swimmers.


2009 Whiskeytown Lake Open Water Swim
The 2009 Whiskeytown Lake Open Water Swim will be on Sunday September
13th at Whiskeytown Lake (just outside Redding, California). It is a
one and two mile swim. Both swims count in the open water points
competition.

USMS HEADQUARTERS NOW OPENED
USMS received the certificate of occupancy and officially openedthe
new USMS headquarters
this afternoon. They are still working our way through getting
settled and over the next couple of months, the headquarters will
continue to improve as the cubicles and front reception area are
installed, the copier is ordered, furniture needs are rounded out and
our front entrance signage is installed. But the important point is
they are open. Our phone systems works and our new number is
941-256-8767
(USMS).

Fitness Logs Available for US Masters Swimming Members
U.S. Masters Swimming has released a new online service that is
available exclusively for our members. Members may now track their
swimming and other fitness activities via our new online Fitness Logs
(FLOGs) tool. With this exciting new online service, you can log a
wide variety of fitness activities such as swim workouts, running,
weights and yoga on your flog calendar and track your weekly, monthly
and annual totals online.

Members who are participating in the popular "Go The Distance"
fitness event will also enjoy the convenience of having the data from
their flog automatically included in the monthly event reports

For those of you who have an Apple iPhone, there is a program that
will tell you how long a sunscreen if properly applied will last (put
in the SFP and it looks for the UV rating for the day in your area.

Long Course Nationals Roster, Psych Sheets and Sixth Event 7/12/2009
The meet roster and psych sheets are available for review for the
2009 Long Course Nationals. There are 1147 swimmers entered in the
meet. Due to the large size of the meet and expected long days, the
sixth event for all swimmers has been dropped.
