Pacific Masters Swimming welcomes anyone who would like to gain and
maintain fitness through swimming and encourages programs to foster
this mission.

CHANGES IN CALENDAR
RUSSIAN RIVER SWIM MOVED LAKE SONOMA
The 2009 Russian River Swim has been moved to Lake Sonoma. It will be
on the same day. From the organizing committee "Swimmers itch is a
parasite that appears as a skin rash. It is an allergic reaction to
a small parasite that burrows into the skin. It is common in open
bodies of water, especially during the summer months. It has become
more prevalent in the Russian River in past years. The parasite,
also known as cercarial dermatitis is excreted by snails in the
water. With the low flow coming out of Lake Mendocino, there is a
higher percentage of shallow water and a greater likilhood of these
snails in the Russian River. We have had 1 reported case, and
environmental health has posted signs in our Memorial Beach Park.

We want happy swimmers, not itchy swimmers."

SMMM SWIM AND EAT
The San Mateo Master Marlins Swim and Eat meet will be on Sunday 20 September.

FRESNO SCY SWIM
A SCY meet has been added to the calendar - Saturday 7 November at
the Clovis North High School Pool. This is the very fast pool that
hosted the 2009 US Masters Swimming SCY Championships. Thank you to
the Clovis Valley All Stars for organizing the meet.

US MASTERS SWIMMING CONVENTION
The 2009 US Masters Swimming convention will be in Chicago, ILL
September 17-20. Pacific is looking for a few more delegates who
would like to learn about the Masters organization and be willing to
help Masters swimming over the next year. A delegate is expected to
attend the House of Delegate meetings, a workshop and the Zone
meeting. You get to meet scores of enthusiastic Masters swimmers who
have been dedicated to make the Masters swimming work.

If you are interested in attending and meet wonderful people from all
over the US, please contact Nancy Ridout at
mailto:registrar at pacificmasters.org.

ELLEN TAIT IN HOSPITAL
Ellen Tait, the oldest swimmer at the XI FINA Masters World
Championships, is in Stanford Hospital recovering from colon cancer
surgery last July 8th. She is recovering slowly, but doing well. She
may be going to rehab next week. Ellen's daughter, Carol MacPherson,
