PACIFIC MASTERS MISSION STATEMENT:
As adopted by the Pacific Masters Committee the Mission of Pacific Masters is:
Pacific Masters Swimming welcomes anyone who would like to gain and
maintain fitness through swimming and encourages programs to foster
this mission.
SIXTH ANNUAL ALAN LIU MEMORIAL SCM MEET
Mountain View Masters is organizing the sixth Annual Alan Liu
Memorial Short Course Meters Meet. The meet will be held in the fast
Eagle Park Pool. Special awards, in memory of Coach Alan Liu, will be
given to the winners of the 400 IM in each age group and gender, and
to those who complete the "Alan Liu Animal Pentathlon," which
includes the 400 IM, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 200 Back and 400 Free.
Award recipients for the latter are not required to win their events.

SACRAMENTO MASTERS 36TH ANNUAL SHORT COURSE METERS PENTATHLON
Sac Masters 36th Annual Short Courrse Meters Pentathlon will be on
Sunday, 11 October at the Schaal Aquatic Center. The pre entry
deadline is midnight 7 October 2009. You can also enter the day of
the meet.

2009 PACIFIC MASTERS SHORT COURSE METER CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2009 Pacific Masters Short Course Meters Championships will be
held at the Clark Swim Center, Heather Farms, Walnut Creek. The meet
is being organized by Walnut Creek Masters. The preentry deadline is
Wednesday 7 October 2009 for on-line entries. (Mailed or hand
delivered entry deadline is 1 October).

MISTAKE IN THE NEWSLETTER
The dates of the 2009 Pacific Masters Short Course Meters meet are
October 16,17 and 18. The dates in the newsletter say the same, but
the dates over the events are incorrect. The dates are Friday the
16th, Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th
UCLA BRUIN MASTERS MEET
Saturday 24 October is the UCLA Bruin Masters Meet at UCLA in Los
Angeles. The meet will be at UCLA's new Spieker Aquatic Center - a
state of the are all-deep water 8 lane competition pool. On-line

DAM BRUTE SQUAD POSTAL
Davis Aquatic Masters is starting a new postal event - the DAM Brute
Squad Postal. This event is the 200 Fly, followed by the 400 IM
followed by the 1650 Free (or as Jim Clemmons said "It is 300 Fly,
followed by the 100 back, then the 100 Breast, and the 1750 free).

SUIT UPDATE
There will not be a new FINA Masters swimwear rule until mid-January
at the earliest, so the June 1, 2009 USMS swimwear interpretation is
still in effect. Suits on the June 22 FINA-approved list and suits
introduced prior to September 30, 2007 are still legal for US Masters
Swimming meets.
FINA will make a decision on Master's swimwear in mid January.

The Pacific Masters Committee voted to set the championships for next year at:

PRELIMINARY 2010 PACIFIC MASTERS SCHEDULE
The preliminary Pacific Masters Swimming Schedule has been posted on
the web site. Currently there are 11 pool meets and 12 open water
event on the schedule. This schedule is subject to change:

USMS CONVENTION WRAP UP
One of USMS's convention tasks this September was the election of new
officers. The below list includes new members of the Executive
Committee.

* Vice President of Local Operations - Ed Tsuzuki
* Vice President of Community Services - Nadine Day
* Treasurer - Ralph Davis

The Raleigh Area Masters Team, in association with US Masters
Swimming, honored Barry Fasbender with the Championship Meet Award
for his work behind the scenes in compiling and formatting computer
data for USMS's national championship meets.
US Masters Swimming Coach of the Year is Nancy Kirpatrick-Reno of
Conejo Simi Aquatic Masters.
The June Krauser Communications Award is presented annually to an
individual whose communicative efforts have contributed to the
growth, improvement, or success of U.S. Masters Swimming.. This
year's recipient was Meg Smath of Kentucky, former rule book editor
and US Masters Swimming secretary.
The Coaches Committee voted to create a Masters coaching
certification program in partnership with the American Swimming
Coaches Association.
The Fitness Committee was renamed the Fitness Education Committee,
and announced that the 2010 Check-off Challenge would be hosted by
the Colorado Swim Dogs.
The Open Water and Long Distance Committee announced the bid winners
for hosting championship events in 2011. Open water championships in
different distances will be held in Noblesville, Ind., Ft. Myers,
Fla., Coney Island, NY, Lake Placid, NY, Madison, Wis., and Central
Oregon. Chicago and Indianapolis will be hosting Postal Champs for
next year
And lastly, the Championship Committee shared that they have selected
Mesa, Ariz. to host Spring Nationals, and Auburn, Ala. to host Summer
Nationals. The committee also voted to use the seasonal names going
forward in an effort to make the meets more easily understood by
those outside the sport.

PACIFIC MASTERS SETS ALL TIME RECORD IN NUMBER OF SWIMMERS
With one month left in the registration year, Pacific has 10,653
swimmers registered, Pacific is almost 8% above of where were were
last year. Congratulations to the coaches and volunteers whose
dedication and work encourage the swimmers to swim for fun, fitness
and competition. California swimmers (northern and southern
California) make up over 30% of US Masters Swimming membership
