PACIFIC MASTERS MISSION STATEMENT

As adopted by the Pacific Masters Committee the Mission of Pacific Masters is:

Pacific Masters Swimming welcomes anyone who would like to gain and maintain fitness through swimming and encourages programs to foster this mission.

Turn Clinic and Hour of Power Workout - This Saturday (3 April)
Saturday, April 3rd, at the new facilities of the College of San Mateo, off Highway 92, there will be a FREE swim for anyone wanting to check it out.
Scott Williams, the new SMMM coach, will run an Hour of Power workout from 8-9am, followed by Starts & Turns from 9-10am.

No charge. All are welcome to try out this new facility.

Pacific Masters Championships - Paper registration mail deadline Friday 2 April
The 2009 Pacific Masters Short Course Yards Championshps will be held at the Dolores Bengston Aquatic Center, Pleasanton, California, April 16th through 18th.
You can enter on line where thedeadline is midnight April 7th. You can also enter by mail where the postmark deadline is Friday 2 April. There are no deck entries for the championship meet.

BAY AREA SENIOR GAMES - MAIL DEADLINE TODAY - ONLINE DEADLINE MONDAY
Swimming will be using short course events held at the Avery Aquatic Center, on the Stanford Campus on April 10th. You can register by mail by going to

The 2010 Bay Area Senior Games organizers are excited to announce a partnership with 23andMe to include Bay Area Senior Games athletes in the Senior Games Genome Project.

Based on your genes, you can learn things like:
o Whether you're more inclined to sprinting or endurance events.
o Where your ancestors lived, and how they got there.
o How your genes affect your risk for diabetes, cancer, arthritis and dozens of other diseases.

Come by the 23andMe booth near athlete registration on 4/10 or 4/11 to receive your free kit (a $499 value) and learn how to participate.

OPEN WATER 201
For open water swimmers put on your calendar Sunday, May 2, Open Water 201, Lake Del Valle, Livermore, that is sponsored by Pacific Masters Swimming.

This is an open water clinic for experienced open water swimmers. Must have completed at least 2 OW swims of mile each and be able to swim a mile in 30 minutes or less. Key speaker is Lisa Hazen, an international and local open water champion. Limited to 50 swimmers. Dryland talk, in water drills, 1/2 mile swim. More information coming. . .

SWIMFEST
Come share the deck with some of the world’s top Masters swim coaches. Join us for a weekend of clinics and instruction in a friendly, non-competitive environment. Whether you are looking to learn the basics, hone your skills or become a more efficient coach, SwimFest ‘10 is for registered Masters swimmers and coaches of all levels and abilities. Friday, June 4 is a coaches-only seminar. Saturday, June 5 will be geared towards pool swimming and Sunday, June 6 will focus on open water swimming. We suggest you register early; attendance is limited. The three-day clinic is FREE for Coaches. For swimmers, the cost is $130/day or $200 for both Saturday and Sunday.

Pacific Masters will sponsor coaches to go to SwimFest and PacMasters will pick up the a coaches plane fare to San Diego and 1/2 of the hotel room (if two coaches buddy up at the hotel, your hotel is covered. CATFISH SWIM
The first open water event of the season will be the Catfish Crawl East Bay to be held at Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton. This will be the first meet sanctioned Catfish Crawl and we look forward to working with USA Productions.


CHANGES FOR THE OPEN WATER SEASON
All 500 yard open water swims will be classified as novice swims. No points will be given. This is an opportunity for newbies to try out an open water swim.

Open water points -- your ten best open water finishes will count towards the open water points competition.

HELP NEEDED
We have lists of all the clubs and the pools where the pools are located. Unfortunately, these are paper copies. TRANS TAHOE RELAY
The registration link for the Trans Tahoe relay has been posted. This is a very very popular race and the maximum number of swimmers was reached very early last year. If your team would like to swim in the event this year, it would behoove you to register early:

2010 Elections Call for Nominations
Information and nomination packets are now available for the 2010 USMS National Elections. This year, we will elect at-large directors; one director from each zone. The elections will take place at our annual convention in September. Nominations are due by April 30. The Ociana Zone which consists of Pacific and Hawaii will have a open director on the US Masters Swimming Board of Directors.
