PACIFIC MASTERS MISSION STATEMENT
As adopted by the Pacific Masters Committee the Mission of Pacific Masters is:
Pacific Masters Swimming welcomes anyone who would like to gain and maintain fitness through swimming and encourages programs to foster this mission.
PARKSIDE MILE - 16 May
The Parkside Mile is on Sunday 16 May, This is a bay swim near San Mateo. The Early entry deadline is 5 May.A swim that has grown in size each year. Water can be chilly but in recent years it has been close to 70 degrees. It depends on the weather the week before. You can have a hot shower at the Joinville pool just down the street. It is free to all swimmers in the event. Get there early if you want to park close. Post event snacks provided.

Spring Lake 1 mile - 22 May
A one mile loop. Water temp is normally in the mid 60’s, but last year, it was closer to 70 degrees. There are some weeds. This swim is always very well run; they will have you out of there by 11:00 am, even if you stay for the awards. Parking is easy. Nice green lawn to sit on. Post event snacks provided.

PACIFIC MASTERS MEETING
The next monthly Pacific Masters meeting will be held on Wednesday 12 June at Heather Farms in Walnut Creek. One of the main topics will be rules proposals for the US Masters Swimming Annual Convention that will be held in September.
Lake Del Valle .75 & 1.5 miles - 6 June - National Championships
The 1.5 mile swim is the 2010 USMS National Open Water Championship. USMS Long Distance National championship medals will be given for 1st through 6th place in each age/sex division. Expect a crowd. If you’re new to open water swimming, try the ¾ mile swim. It’s run first. For a good workout, do both. Nice venue, plenty of parking. A good place to bring your kids: they have a swimming area that is roped off. Post event snacks provided.

Lake Berryessa One and Two Mile 12 June - Part of new H2Open Series
One of the biggest swims of the year. This season, Lake Berryessa has been chosen to be part of a new USMS open water series, USMS H2Open. A very popular swim that brings in the crowds. Water temp is comfortable. Plenty of parking and a shuttle runs frequently to haul you and your stuff from the parking lots. Bring a chair because the grass is full of foxtails and there are only a few picnic tables to sit at. You can pre-order a lunch…or bring your own food.

Updated Results File
The Results file of Pacific Masters has been updated. The old file was getting so big and combersome that it had to be trimmed down. Now there are three results files one from 1996-2000, one from 2001-2009 and one that has 2008-2010 results .

COACH OF THE YEAR
The coach of the nominations are due at the May Pacific Masters meeting (12 May 2010). This is the time to publicly show your coach how much you mean to him. Coaches are underpaid and overworked. They do the job for the love of the sport and Pacific Masters honors one coach a year as the Coach of the Year.
If you want to nominate your coach I would suggest that you write a one page letter telling the committee why s/he should be the coach of the year. Read the nomination procedures (at bottom of page), let the committee know what the coach has meant to you and your team mates.
After you write your letter and if you have letters from your team mates send it to chairman at pacificmasters.org. Unfortunately, there is only one person who can be coach of the year. Many times the coach of the year has been nominated before. Those who have been nominated will be listed at the long course championships (where the coach of the year presentation is made). Also since Pacific has such a plethora of great coaches, we have not yet awarded the Coach of the Year to the same person twice.
BY THE NUMBERS
Pacific Masters has reached 8408 members for 2010. We are about 7% ahead of last years same time membership.
