SUZANNE HEIM-BOWEN BREAKS THE USMS 1500M W40-44 LCM RECORD
At the USA-Swimmming Long Course Sectional Champions Series held in
San Jose, Suzanne Heim-Bowen swam a 18:00.51 in the 1500m LCM
shattering her USMS record of 18:14.34 set in 1998. Suzanne, in a
field where she is old enough to be the mother of any of the swimmers
in her heat, led wire to wire. (the next oldest competitor was 18.)

Suzanne also swims for the USA Swimming team Terrapins. Her younger
teammates were amazed that such an "old lady" could hold 1:12's
through the gruelling 1500 meters.

USMS will recognize swims at USA Swimming meets for records and top
ten. FINA requires that Masters records be set in a Masters
Sanctioned event. Suzanne set a USMS record but not a world record.

The Manatees 2x1 Lake Del Valle Open Water Relay will be August 19th
at Lake Del Valle near Livermore.
	http://www.pacificmasters.org/comp/01mamow.html
This is an update on the Manatee 2x1 Open Water Relay Swim at Lake
Del Valle. Some of you may have heard the news back in June that
water from Lake Del Valle was being diverted to supply water
purveyors due to an emergency leak on the California Aqueduct. This
situation has since been fixed and water is being released back into
the Lake. As of last Tuesday, the lake is just 1.5 feet short of its
normal elevation. We expect the lake to be back to its normal
elevation well before the race on August 19th.

The Manatee 2x1 Open Water Swim is definitely still on for Lake Del
Valle, Sunday August 19th. Vincent Pons, meet director also
extended the Pre-registration deadline to August 10th. All
preregistered swimmers will receive a t-shirt this year. It should
be a great swim.

USMS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BIDS
Bids for the 2003 Long Course, short Course and Long Distance
National Championships are due August 13th. For questions on the bids
for Long Course/Short Course contact Sandi Rousseau at
Championship at usms.org . Direct questions on Long Distance Bids to
Sally Dillon at LongDistance at usms.org .

(Editors note: This year the Long Course and Short Course Nationals
were held on the West Coast, next year Short Course is in Hawaii and
Long Course is in Cleveland. The only way the west coast will get the
short course meet is if no one bids from the East IMHO. I doubt that
the House of Delegates would vote for Long Course on the West Coast
for 2003. Open Water Championships is far more open and clubs should
consider hosting a long distance championship. If your club is
interested in hosting a long distance championship, please contact
Jim Wheeler jwheeler at sanselmo.org )

COMMUNICATIONS LINK DOWN
The communications link between Coach Midnight's fortress of solitude
and Pacific Master's tech center was down. The alternative Avian
carrier protocol was tried (RFC 1149) and it failed. We are not sure
what happened to the avian carrier, but the cat in the house has a
big smile and looking a little plump. It is hoped that the router can
be fixed so that Coach Midnight will be back next week.

COACH NEEDED
Fog City Masters is looking for a person to coach three of the five
evening workouts of the well established evening crowd. Salary DOE.

INSIDE BASEBALL
The update has to be popular as it is on peoples mailing lists. I
received about 30 copies of the SirCam virus from people who received
the update. (if someone knows anyone at monofin.com please tell them
that at least one of their computers is infected and infected and
infected).

For the past five week, I have been using new software to send out
the Update. There were 8799 people on the mailing list. Last week was
the fifth week of the update. The software sent me 930 messages
notifying me that an address was bad. (one email for each bad
address). 930 times I had to individually take someone off the
mailing list - if there was only an automatic way to do it.
